The Kanizsa Triangle is an optical illusion in which a white equilateral triangle is perceived although in reality there is none. This effect is known as subjective contour. Also, this nonexistent white triangle seems to be brighter than the surrounding area, but in fact it has the same background brightness.

You can find more information about this optical effect on Wikipedia.
